What Does it Mean to Heal?

There’s an old saying: You can get bitter or you can get better.

This is what healing comes down to, in a nutshell. Do you want to hold on to your side of the story, your justifications for the hurts you feel? Do you want to be “right”? Or do you want to feel better?

What good is being right if we’re miserable?

The Ego wants to be right. The Soul wants to be free.

Being free means: I’m no longer concerned with trying to control how you perceive me or what the outcome looks like.

Being free means acknowledging: I don’t have to run the show. I don’t have to know everything. I always have the option to surrender to my higher self and allow a new way of seeing to come forth and guide me.

Being free means being curious.

Being free means releasing ourselves from the prison of the past.

The past doesn’t have to dictate the future for us. The past is simply a record of how we’ve been conditioned. It shows us the deficits. The hills and valleys. It’s the foundation of our lives, but what we build upon that foundation, day by day, one decision at a time, is our choice.

Sometimes the concept of healing can feel broad and vague. What does it actually mean to heal? Healing is the radical decision to trade bitter for better. It’s the process of mentally and energetically shifting. From drifting to swimming. From inevitable to intentional.

Healing begins with changing our thinking.

To heal is to take responsibility for our lives and our choices. To heal is to get free. To get better. To drop everything that is not love. To prize our peace above all else. It’s noble work, taken on when we feel genuinely out of any other options. The old ways aren’t serving us any longer and our pain is asking us to change.

To heal is to put our Souls behind the wheel and our Egos in the backseat. To heal is to pivot away from self sabotage and finally work with the momentum of our destiny instead of against it.
